We lucked out and got a personal Salida Sam tour from Steven Chapman (author of the Salida Sam books)! We filled out the waiver online before the tour. There's free parking near the F Street Bridge, including fairly large lots on the other side from Riverside Park. We learned a lot about the history of Salida, the architecture, and some exciting historical events all within a few blocks on F Street! It was a beautiful day. The trees were flowering. Tourist season hadn't quite started, yet. It was an easy walk and there was often seating, if needed. Along the way, we passed some lovely eateries. We walked along the riverwalk afterwards, ate at a local restaurant, and bought stuff after window shopping. For those who play Pokemon Go, there were 2 gyms and many Pokestops along the way. That colorful tree (gym) really is a colorful tree! Go find it!

I love history and can be a critic of wrong or misleading history as told but this tour was "spot on". Very informative in an entertaining way. Will definitely go back for one of the other tours offered.

It was so much fun to tour the town and learn about the early settlers, the madams roles, why they decided to locate the town where they did, the architecture, the importance of the RxR and how law and order was enforced. Our tour guide was awesome. I can’t wait to take another tour on a different topic.

Our tour guide, Steve, was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. He also threw in some interesting and intertaining stories. Paying and signing documents was an easy process. Nice small town vibe. It seemed almost everyone in town knew Steve and stopped to chat or just say hello.

I am a local and absolutely loved the wild west tour with Steve Chapman. I learned tons about my little community. Steve is extraordinarily pleasant and congenial and I highly recommend any of the salida walking tours.

I live in Salida. This was a fun and very informative tour of my own town. So much so that after the tour I went to the Bookstore The Book Haven and bought two books authored by Steve

A one hour history tour of downtown Salida with Steve Chapman is a good introduction to the 19th century development of western towns in general and Salida in particular. A river, dueling railroads, mining, ranching, and a cast of colorful characters make for an entertaining experience. Steve has researched the town’s history and presents it with insightful stories.

Steve Chapman is an incredible storyteller, and the tour was amazing. We had a blast and came away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for Salida. I highly recommend this tour to everyone!

I took a group of local high school students on the tour and they were amazed to see and learn things about their town that they had not seen or heard before. They said several times, "I have never noticed that before." They were also fascinated with Salida's rough history that they had no idea about. I had a group of 18 teenagers and Steve did a great job engaging them and working with them. I can't wait to go back and bring my husband and in-laws.
