The Kayaking itself was great and we had a great time enjoying the outdoors and the river. As a family we have experienced many guided tours and these guides were the WORST. The guides destroyed our trip. Our "Duckie" instructor Axel, was horrific. He did not give clear instructions and did not guide, give advise or even have any knowledge about surrounding areas of the tour. He made myself and my children very uncomfortable as he was condescending and offered no guidance. Axel made a remark to my son (15) that made him very upset and was not appropriate. On the bus ride back our guides told off-color remarks and jokes that were offensive. We will never use this company again. They are unprofessional and gross humans.
This was my family's first rafting experience and Mountain Waters Rafting made it amazing! Jessie, our guide, was fantastic and a true professional. He also has a great sense of humor! We felt confident and comfortable on our first trip down the white water of the Animas. Would most definitely recommend!
this was one of the funnest things i did in durango!! i would highly recommend doing it. very family friendly and extremely fun!! dillon was the best river guide anyone could ask for! he was super funny, friendly and just fun to be around!
My husband and I went kayaking on the 2 hour trip down the Animas river. Had a thrill of a lifetime down the class 3 rapids in the single kayak. Loved the trip and highly recommend the kayak vs. the rafting in the summer when the river is running low. I will look forward to coming back and doing the half day next time.
This was such a fun trip for my family and I got to check it off my bucket list. Our guide was Jesse who led us thru the rapids, taught us how to work together as a team, kept us entertained with rafting jokes, and let us go raft surfing! Can't think of anything that could have been improved. We loved the banter between the guides too as the other rafters in our group floated down the river. We had a lot of fun and would definitely do it again.
We actually went on the four hour kayaking trip. The river is running fairly low right now, so I felt like it was a good time to try kayaking in the river instead of just a lake which Is what I normally do. They were quite organized. Everything was quite simple when you arrive, you simply walked up gave me your name. You do not need your drivers license but you will need to sign a waiver. We took a short bus ride after we got our wetsuits on, everyone on the bus did have a mask and you had to wear it until you got in the water. So they observed very good Covid rules. Bo was our instructor and Zach was the guy who hung out in the middle of the pack. They were both awesome and very helpful. We all know this is a service industry so we know they work on tips. The only annoying person was the gal on the bus with the long dreadlocks, I do not recall her name. She told stupid stories and stupid jokes that nobody wanted to hear. I think she called herself the team leader. They could probably do without her services. Bo or anyone else could have did what she did as far as giving instructions. As far as the two hour versus the four hour trip, you get to do the most exciting parts all on the first two hours. Having said that I would still choose the four hour because it was beautiful and still challenging in spots. In my opinion you do not need to know how to operate a kayak, it’s fairly simple. The people that we went by on the rafts look completely bored because the water was not moving very quickly. Of course if I would’ve had young children I would have taken the raft ride and would have loved it. But if you’re athletic at all and in little bit a good shape definitely do the kayaking at least when the river is this slow. Because the river is slow I wish I would’ve taken even my phone and put it in a baggie to protect it, and shove it down inside my shirt. I would’ve love to have some other pictures with me and my husband even though they did take some of good pictures for you to choose from later, they were at a good price.
